The Importance of Scalp Care

SCALP CARE: Your baby has 2 “soft spots” on the head. The one on the top of the head will close at approximately 12-15 months. This allows for the large amount of brain growth your baby will experience in the first year of life. There is a smaller soft spot on the back of the head that will close at 4-6 months of life. Do not be afraid to touch or scrub these areas gently when washing your baby’s hair.

If your baby develops cradle cap, we recommend using baby oil and scrubbing gently in a circular motion to lift or loosen the flakes somewhat. Then use a dandruff shampoo containing selenium sulfide to gently scrub the flakes as well. Let the shampoo sit on your baby’s scalp for a few minutes then rinse it away. Take caution not to get any of this in your baby’s eyes, as it will sting.
